🎸 A Month to Remember – June at Online Guitar School

June was a truly special month at Online Guitar School, and I want to take a moment to celebrate everything we’ve experienced together — especially our big event: the Student Recital.

🌟 Student Recital Highlights

On Saturday 28th June, students, families, and friends gathered at All Saints Church in Child’s Hill for an informal afternoon of live music. The space was perfect — peaceful, welcoming, and full of positive energy. As each student took to the stage, something really special came to life. We saw students of all ages and levels sharing their music — some for the first time — with confidence and heart.

The atmosphere was really lovely — peaceful, positive, and just right for the occasion. It was emotional for me to see something that started as just an idea a few months ago take shape so beautifully.

From Green Day to Queen, Coldplay to Metallica, original medleys, and touching vocal-guitar performances, the range of music was inspiring. I had the pleasure of accompanying Janki, who played "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" — a beautiful piece she’s preparing for her Grade 3.

Thank you to every student who performed, and every family who supported. Your trust, effort, and presence meant the world to me. I’m very grateful to be building this community with you.

πŸ… Student of the Month – Ana

We’re proud to celebrate Anna Raj, who passed her Grade 5 guitar exam with a Distinction this month! She scored incredibly high marks across all areas — from her prepared pieces to her sight reading. It was no surprise to me — Ana is consistent, focused, and plays with great musicality. Well done, Ana!

πŸ‘¨‍🏫 A Reminder: Lessons & Guitar Club

Face-to-face lessons are available at Mill Hill Music Complex every Tuesday and Sunday, and I continue to offer online lessons on all other days of the week.

Don’t forget about Guitar Club — our free online community sessions that run three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5PM. It’s a fun, informal way to play, learn new skills, meet other students, and feel part of something. All current students are welcome to join in. It’s one of the best things we do.

Thank you again for being part of this musical journey. Keep practicing, learning and making beautiful music.

Hi %FirstName%,

I hope you had a great summer and are ready for a fresh season of music-making! It’s always inspiring to see the progress each of you makes from week to week, and I’m looking forward to building on that momentum together this term.

🎢 In the Pocket Band Workshop (Sept 27–29):
For over 10 years, Joe and I have been running the In the Pocket Band Workshop — a chance for young musicians aged 6 to 16 to experience what it’s like to play in a band setting. Across three afternoons, students get to develop their listening skills, learn how to support each other musically, and gain stage confidence while having a lot of fun. The workshop will take place at the Mill Hill Complex from 11 AM to 2 PM, and places are limited.

🎸 Recital – November 29th:
Following the success of our first recital last year, I’m delighted to confirm that we’ll be holding another one on Saturday, November 29th, at the Church in Childs Hill. The recital is a wonderful opportunity to perform for family and friends, gain stage experience, and celebrate the progress you’ve made. If you’d like to take part, let me know soon so we can choose your piece and prepare it carefully.

πŸ“š My Music Staff Student Portal:
Have you logged into your student portal recently? It’s a valuable tool designed to make your practice more effective. Inside you’ll find:

  • Detailed lesson reports after each session.

  • A repertoire list with links and resources to guide your practice.

  • A clear overview of your progress.

Making regular use of the portal helps you stay organised between lessons and ensures you get the most out of your learning. It also reflects the care I take in preparing your lessons and reports.

🎡 Soundslice Practice Tools:
Alongside the portal, don’t forget you also have access to Soundslice. This platform allows you to slow down songs, loop tricky passages, and play along with backing tracks. It’s an excellent way to make practice sessions more focused and enjoyable. If you haven’t tried it yet, I’d be happy to walk you through it in your next lesson.

🌟 Celebrating Student Achievements:
Finally, a special congratulations to André Christian, who passed his Grade 6 exam with merit this summer! He is now preparing for Grade 7 and tackling exciting pieces such as “Sultans of Swing” and “Natchez Trace.” Achievements like these show what can be accomplished with steady practice and commitment, and I look forward to celebrating many more successes with you.

I’m excited for the term ahead and all the opportunities it will bring. Remember, the more you make use of the tools and resources available, the more rewarding your musical journey will be.

See you soon,
Rodrigo
